Fakhar Zaman has been handed a two-match suspension in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2026 after being found guilty of ball tampering during a high-pressure clash between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings.
The incident took place on March 29 at Gaddafi Stadium during the closing stages of Karachi’s run chase. On-field umpire Faisal Afridi raised concerns over possible foul play and requested an inspection of the ball. After discussions among officials, the umpires penalised Lahore Qalandars five runs and ordered a ball replacement just before the final over. With the equation reduced to nine runs, Karachi Kings chased the target successfully, sealing a crucial win.
Disciplinary Hearing and Verdict: Fakhar Zaman Banned for 2 Matches
Following the match, Fakhar denied any wrongdoing and chose to contest the charge, triggering a formal disciplinary hearing. The case was reviewed by match referee Roshan Mahanama, who took nearly 48 hours to deliver the final verdict.

After examining the evidence and hearing Fakhar’s defense, Mahanama ruled that the batter had breached Article 2.14 of the PSL Code of Conduct, which deals with altering the condition of the ball. The charge was classified as a Level 3 offence. As per the rules, such an offence carries a penalty ranging from a one-match ban to a two-match ban, with Fakhar receiving the maximum punishment.
Impact and What’s Next
The hearing was attended by Lahore captain Shaheen Afridi along with team officials Sameen Rana and Farooq Anwar. Despite the defense, the match officials upheld the original charges brought forward by the umpires.
As a result, Fakhar will miss two key matches against Multan Sultans and Islamabad United. This is a significant setback for Lahore Qalandars during a tightly contested phase of the tournament. He still has the option to appeal the decision within 48 hours, but the incident has already become one of the biggest talking points of PSL 2026, highlighting how crucial moments can shape match outcomes and team campaigns.
